The Bulldogs are coming off a bye as they battle with many injuries. Fresno State will be out with four starters. QB Jake Haener, Tackle Donate Bull, LB Raymond Scott, and Safety Evan Williams will all be out today. Sophomore QB Logan Fife will make his first start. This will be the last non-conference game for the Bulldogs.
UConn, they are currently on a three-game losing streak. The Huskies are coming off a 41-10 loss to the 10th-ranked NC State Wolfpack. Uconn is still looking for its first win over an FBS program.
RUN GAME
It’s simple to run the ball! Uconn has given up over 500 rushing yards in its last three games combined. With the Bulldog’s 1-2 punch in Mimis and Sherrod, they could find a lot of success on the ground. This will also help Logan Fife ease into the game and help open up the passing game. Look for Mimis to have a big game.
Turnovers
Where is this Bulldogs defense? The Dogs have yet to force a turnover this season. Good news: Uconn has turned over the Ball 12 times this season. Without Evan Williams, the Bulldogs are going to have to have someone step up on defense and lead the unit. Can Kevin Coyle create enough pressure and get this defense going?
Logan Fife
It’s the first start for the kid from Tracy, California. With Jake Haener’s status unknown this will give the Bulldogs a chance to look for what’s after the Jake Haener era. Logan Fife looked solid in his last outing going 11-12 for 140 yards and leading a touchdown drive. Now Fife will get his first start against the Huskies and will get a shot to show everyone that he is the future at the QB position for the Bulldogs.
Precautions:
Fresno State is battling some key injuries but look for the running game to carry the load in this one. The Huskies’ defense has struggled all year. Logan FIfe will be fine and ready to go!
