One of the Washington Redskins’ biggest roster needs this offseason is at the wide receiver position. Outside of adding Cody Latimer — and attempting to land Amari Cooper, the proverbial big fish in the NFL Free Agency sea — the Redskins have been relatively quiet at the position. Everybody expects them to try and grab a pass-catcher or two in the 2020 NFL Draft later this week, but as of now, they will still likely be forced to rely on young and inexperienced players in the 2020 season.
So would grabbing a player like Marqise Lee — who was released by the Jacksonville Jaguars on Monday — help the cause in Washington?
Marqise Lee was due $7M this year when you combine salary and per-game roster bonuses. The #Jaguars save a little money. Based on the current circumstances, we may see more teams follow suit to save some dollars. https://t.co/rwUJ6fPLQL

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Lee is completely healthy and medically cleared to play, but the Jags were not intent on paying the $7 million he was owed in the coming year. Would Lee, a veteran player with a lot left to give, make sense in Washington?
I say yes, and I would try to sign him in an instant if I were Ron Rivera. Lee has never risen to the status of ‘best in the game’ but he undoubtedly is a solid player who has been around the block. In his five seasons in the NFL, he has eight total touchdowns. He missed all but six games due to injury in 2019, but reports show that his availability shouldn’t be a concern going forward.
If I’m the Redskins, I reach out to Lee yesterday and see what type of money he wants. As a hungry player who has the talent, but is yet to taste success, he’s a perfect fit in Washington.
