Edgar (24-8-1 MMA, 18-8-1 UFC) made his 135-pound debut in August, defeating Pedro Munhoz via split-decision in the main event of UFC on ESPN 15. The victory snapped a two-fight skid that marked the end of his run at 145 pounds. The 39-year-old last held UFC gold in 2012. He’s remained a contender since, but has failed to recapture a UFC title four times since he was last champion.
Edgar’s opponent, Sandhagen (13-2 MMA, 6-1 UFC), is coming off a TKO win over Marlon Moraes in October at UFC Fight Night 179. With the win over the Brazilian, he successfully bounced back from a submission loss to Aljamain Sterling. Sandhagen is 8-1 in his past nine fights.
