The Indianapolis Colts fell short of their goal of reaching the Super Bowl and winning a championship, but it is clear they continue to take steps in the right direction toward getting deeper into the playoffs.
It takes a special combination of factors to win the Super Bowl. Everything has to come together in a way that almost appears to be out of luck in some cases.
The Colts won’t be one of those teams that make it this season, but head coach Frank Reich detailed what he believes makes a Super Bowl team. It starts with getting playmakers.
“It’s multiple things but number one, you need playmakers. You need good football players. I believe that this locker room is full of good football players, guys who work hard and they love the process,” Reich said Sunday.
The Colts have been adding playmakers for a few seasons now on both sides of the ball. The defense took a major step forward with the addition of DeForest Buckner, while the offense has added some weapons in the backfield and to the wide receiver corps.
But on top of having talented playmakers on both sides of the ball, the chemistry has to be there.
“Then there needs to be a special chemistry I think, a closeness and a bond and I know this team has that,” said Reich. “Those are real key factors and then you have to have guys where it’s not too big for them and believe that and see that and see the big picture and have that belief that you can make it to the top.”
The Colts seemingly have the chemistry aspect down. Now, they just need to add more playmakers to the roster over the offseason, whether it’s through free agency or the 2021 NFL draft.
The Colts are still a few pieces away from being Super Bowl contenders, but they are certainly heading in the right direction.
