Fresh off his first Pro Bowl berth, Lions center Frank Ragnow continues to gain acclaim. Ragnow was the top vote-getter amongst centers in ESPN’s polling of NFL coaches, executives and players.
Ragnow finished fourth overall in the interior linemen voting. Guards Quenton Nelson, Zack Martin and Brandon Scherff finished above Ragnow. He slots in well ahead of the No. 2 center, Arizona’s Rodney Hudson; the former Raiders standout checks in at No. 9 overall.
Ragnow was not a fixture in last year’s rankings, but he surged in a big way this year, fresh off a $54 million extension with Detroit. He has always been good, but enough people are finally starting to notice, voters said.
“He can run the whole line, great communicator, takes pressure off the quarterback, athletic enough to pull, can play guard if you need,” an NFC scout said. “Some centers can’t do that. He’s probably the most versatile center right now.”
It’s great to see Ragnow get more recognition for his excellent play. The Lions rewarded Ragnow with a lucrative contract extension earlier this offseason.
