July 1 has become a crucial date for Jedd Fisch and the Washington Huskies coaching staff. Four-star defensive lineman Smith Orogbo announced on Sunday that he will join two other blue-chip Washington targets, four-star edge rusher Chinedu Onyeagoro, and four-star linebacker Mark Iheanachor, who are both also set to make their decision that day.
Orogobo, who is ranked as the nation’s No. 22 defensive lineman and No. 171 overall prospect by 247Sports, took official visits to Washington, Oklahoma, Texas, and Texas Tech over the last three weeks and seems to have made up his mind.
The product of Alief Hastings High School in Houston, Texas, has received crystal ball projections from both 247Sports and On3 to choose coach Joey McGuire and the Texas Tech Red Raiders.
During his official visit to Seattle, Orogbo spent a lot of time with three-star commit Devin Hyde, who discussed their relationship on the Locked On Huskies podcast.
“I’m hoping Smith joins me [in Seattle],” Hyde said. “I had a really great conversation with him and I think he’s a really down to earth, modest guy and talks in a way that helps me know that he’s done a lot of work to get to where he is. But at the same time, he doesn’t want to boast and brag about it and wants to keep working hard.”
