Four-star tight end Vander Ploog chooses the Huskies

Four-star tight end Vander Ploog committed to the Huskies, securing a much-needed win on the recruiting trail.

Fullerton, California tight end Vander Ploog announced his commitment to the Huskies, securing a strong victory on the recruiting trail for Jedd Fisch and Washington as they fill out their 2025 class.

Ploog drew interest from a number of Big Ten and former Pac-12 schools, but his visit schedule had a heavy West Coast bias. The No. 11 tight end in the 247Sports Composite rankings took trips to Washington, SMU, Arizona State, Utah, and California over the last two months before settling on the Huskies.

The Troy High star also caught passes from the Elite 11 quarterbacks in Los Angeles earlier this week between his visits to Utah and Cal. Washington locking in his commitment after a high-profile showing like that, especially without either of the Huskies’ 2025 commitments at quarterback in attendance, is a huge win for Washington.

The Huskies graduate Quentin Moore after the 2024 season, leaving them with Nevada transfer Keleki Latu as the veteran in the room, followed by sophomore Ryan Otton and freshman Decker DeGraaf. Washington also adds Bend, Oregon freshman Charlie Crowell this fall.

Ploog is the highest ranked recruit of the group, just edging out Otton, whose Husky career to this point has been sidetracked by injuries. His addition gives Washington a building block at tight end, a position that Fisch and offensive coordinator Brennan Carroll have shown they’d like to feature in this offense.
