It took a few hours after Amir Jackson announced his commitment to the University of Florida, but Clinton High (North Carolina) defensive lineman Amaris Williams got the ball rolling again for Florida by pledging his services for Florida.
Two more defensive recruits committed shortly after Williams’ announcement, but he might have been the most unexpected name to latch on the Orange and Blue all weekend. He told On3’s Hayes Fawcett that it was the coaching staff and community that helped him make his decision while still in Gainesville on an official visit.
“What really stood out about Florida was the coaches and the time they put into me,” Williams said. “They had a game plan set for me and treated me as a priority. Being a top player on their board added to it. Another thing that stood out was the people and the environment.”
Williams committed to Florida over Auburn, Georgia, NC State, Tennessee and Penn State among others.

Williams is a four-star recruit everywhere but On3’s individual rankings. 247Sports believes he’s a top-100 player in the class, as does Rivals.com albeit to a lesser degree.
The On3 industry ranking, which uses a weighted average of all four major services, has Williams at No. 180 overall and No. 21 among defensive linemen in the class of 2024.
