Four-star offensive lineman Samson Okunlola of Thayer Academy in Massachusetts is one of the most highly coveted recruits in the 2023 recruiting cycle. 247Sports ranks him as the 36th best player overall nationally as the offensive tackle is listed at 6-6, 295-pounds.
Our colleague Kristian Dyer of Rutgers Wire recently spoke with Okunlola and his recruitment by Marcus Freeman and Notre Dame was brought up when the programs pursuing him the hardest was brought up.
“Ohio State, Notre Dame, Oregon, Vanderbilt – those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head”
When asked specifically about Notre Dame, Okunlola shared the following:
“I really like the school, I met the new head coach, he seems like a good guy. Energetic. I like the school – it has a good academics. I want to get to know the new offensive line coach too.”
Samson already has nearly 40 offers and is the type of player that will seemingly have his pick of the litter. It’s a good sign for Notre Dame fans overall that Freeman is already doing the work required to land these big time prospects.
