A former Washington commit has kept the Huskies in the mix and is now set to announce his new commitment on Friday.
Four-star defensive lineman Josiah Sharma is down to Oregon, Texas, Washington, and Alabama, where coach Kalen DeBoer and his staff reoffered the product of Folsom High School in California after re-opening his recruitment.
Sharma initially committed to DeBoer and co. on New Year’s Day, just before the Huskies beat Texas in the College Football Playoff semifinal. However, coach Jedd Fisch and defensive line coach Jason Kaufusi were heavily involved with Sharma at Arizona, which kept Washington in the mix after the defensive tackle decommitted following the coaching change.
Fisch and Kaufusi got Sharma to campus in April for an official visit, nearly a month and a half before the defensive lineman took any other visits.
Former Arizona defensive coordinator Johnny Nansen, who is now at Texas, also got involved with Sharma’s recruitment after the decommitment. Sharma took a visit to Oregon in June as part of a three-week whirlwind that brought him to Texas, Oregon, and Alabama.
At 6-foot-5 and 295 pounds, Sharma is the No. 28 defensive lineman in the 247Sports Composite rankings and No. 21 player in California. He attends Folsom High School, the alma mater of former Huskies star quarterback Jake Browning, now with the Cincinnati Bengals.
Sharma will announce his commitment live on Friday at noon Pacific time on the 247Sports YouTube channel.
