Hugh Freeze and the staff at Auburn made a late push to land a four-star athlete during Big Cat Weekend, and it ended up paying off
[autotag]Jalewis Solomon[/autotag], a four-star athlete from Ellaville, Georgia, announced Saturday afternoon that he has committed to Auburn. Solomon chose the Tigers over South Carolina, Florida State, Kentucky, and Texas A&M.
He attended Big Cat Weekend last weekend and left by saying that Auburn was in the top two of his college choices alongside South Carolina.
“South Carolina and Auburn are probably the top two schools right now,” Solomon said. “Those are the top two schools I’m probably just focused on, I’m not going to lie. It’ll probably come down to those two schools. Both have an eagerness to win and they’re both on the come up right now, rising up. Like for Auburn, I just saw two commits just flipped and they’re on the rise for sure.”
Following Big Cat Weekend, 247Sports and On3 began predicting that South Carolina would earn his commitment, but Lewis surprised the experts by choosing Freeze and the Tigers. Solomon tells Chad Simmons of On3 that he hopes be a part of the change of culture at Auburn.
“I would love to play for Coach Freeze,” Solomon said. “Like why not? He kind of made the point when I was talking to him, when he beat Bama in (2014-15), it’s like man, that is different. He was saying whenever I get here that he was going to make me a big impact for this team. I feel wanted here. I wouldn’t mind playing for Auburn.”
Solomon is an industry-rated four-star by On3, and is the No. 31 player from the state of Georgia for the 2024 class.
