LSU’s defense still has room to improve
It has been a difficult year for the Tigers defense, and Saturday’s performance against the Gamecocks was sonly marginally better. South Carolina racked up 403 yards of defense in the losing effort and averaged 10.6 yards per pass and 5.8 yards per rushing attempt.
True, LSU’s defense wasn’t exactly a lock-down defensive unit last year, ranking ninth in the SEC in total defense but still managing to win the conference and, of course, a national championship. But LSU’s defensive numbers are down toward the bottom of the conference this season. South Carolina is the third opponent to have over 400 yards of total offense against LSU (Mississippi State with 632 yards and Missouri with 586 yards).
On the flip side, LSU did a solid job getting off the field on third down. The Gamecocks converted just three of 10 third-down plays, and one of two attempts on fourth down.
That’s some of what we learned this weekend from LSU. What did you learn?
