Breakout night from Tyrion Davis-Price on the ground
LSU’s running game may still be a bit of a 1-2 combo with John Emery Jr. and Tyrion Davis-Price, but it was the sophomore Davis-Price who had the big night in the box score. Davis-Price rushed for a game-high 135 yards, including a 35-yard run. Davis-Price also saw a career-high 22 carries in the game as he proved to head coach Ed Orgeron he was capable of carrying the football routinely.
Emery had 18 carries for 88 yards and a touchdown. Don’t expect this to tip the scales in favor of Davis-Price becoming the featured back all by himself, but the young back showed plenty of potential to be a reliable back moving forward in his biggest game yet with the Tigers.
Davis-Price was third on the team in rushing a season ago with 295 yards and six touchdowns (Clyde Edwards-Helaire led the LSU rushing game and Joe Burrow did some damage as well, in case you forgot).
