The second-fastest man in the NFL’s comeback came to an end on Tuesday.
Former Washington Huskies wide receiver John Ross took the 2023 season to train and attempt a comeback to the league. Shortly after the 2024 NFL draft, the Philadelphia Eagles invited the former No. 9 overall pick to attend the team’s rookie camp, which eventually led Eagles general manager Howie Roseman to sign Ross to a one-year contract.
Then, during the offseason, the Eagles brought in veteran receiver Parris Campbell to compete for the job alongside Ross and several players already on the roster.
The landscape of the competition changed again when Philadelphia made a trade with the Washington Commanders for former first-round pick Jahan Dotson. Ross, who was also sidelined with a concussion, saw his chances at making the roster continue to dwindle following the deal.
The #Eagles have cut John Ross which comes to no surprise given the addition of Jahan Dotson in Philly 🦅
Never forget when he broke the 40 yard dash record đź’¨
Can the speedster still contribute to a team?? 🤔 pic.twitter.com/F4vXCTMRab

In his short time with the Eagles, he was able to haul in four catches for 37 yards and took two kickoff returns for 68 yards across his preseason appearances. As a veteran of more than three years, Ross is eligible to sign with a new team right away and does not have to go through the waiver process.
