Dominique Hampton may not have seen exactly how his future with the Washington Commanders has gone, but he accomplished exactly what he wanted by making it on a team’s final roster.
The former Washington Huskies safety was selected in round No. 5 of the 2024 draft by former Seattle Seahawks defensive coordinator and Commanders head coach Dan Quinn. While Hampton thought his role was going to be that of a safety, the competition at that position was fierce in DC, and Quinn is a big proponent of players that can be used in a dual role, and Hampton’s size, athletic ability, and football IQ all lent to the idea of moving him into a linebacker role.
Hampton brought the fierceness to the field during the preseason that Washington fans saw him bring in the 57 games he appeared in on Montlake, and he posted numbers that were equally as impressive against the run as they were in coverage.

The winner of the Earle T. Glant Tough Husky Award at the team’s postseason banquet in 2023 has found himself in a very fortunate situation since the Commanders brought in former Seahawks All-Pro linebacker Bobby Wagner to head up their linebacker corps this year.
Being mentored by one of the best in the game surely will be a great way for Hampton to start his NFL career.
