Former Washington punter Jack McCallister commits to Nebraska

Washington punter Jack McCallister announced his commitment to Nebraska for his final season of eligibility on Tuesday.

Jack McCallister is the second Washington transfer to find a new home.

The senior punter announced on social media that he has committed to Big Ten foe Nebraska for his final year of eligibility after originally entering the portal on December 2.

The move keeps McCallister in the Big Ten, but he and the Huskies will pass like ships in the night in 2025. Washington does not meet Nebraska in a conference game for the first time until 2026.

McCallister was the conference’s fourth-best-rated punter by Pro Football Focus this season, averaging 44.2 yards and 3.86 seconds of hangtime per punt. Both numbers were career-highs for the Washington native, who has started for the Huskies each of the last three seasons.

Washington brought in Australian punter Dusty Zimmer on scholarship and has a walk-on commitment from highly touted freshman Tyler Prasuhn, however, which clouded McCallister’s future on Montlake heading into his last season of eligibility.

McCallister is still expected to be the Huskies’ punter in the Independence Bowl versus Louisville on December 31. Jedd Fisch said that any players in the portal who wished to stay with the team through the bowl game would be permitted to. Backup punter Adam Saul is also in the transfer portal.

Washington has brought in five transfers of their own since the portal officially opened on December 9. Oklahoma offensive lineman Geirean Hatchett is returning to the Huskies alongside Kansas State offensive lineman Carver Willis, Western Michigan defensive tackle Anterio Thompson, Utah defensive tackle Simote Pepa, and Northern Arizona safety Alex McLaughlin.
