Former Washington OL Nate Kalepo declares for NFL Draft

One of the members of Washington’s Joe Moore Award-winning offensive line declared for the NFL draft on Friday.

On Friday afternoon, former Washington Huskies offensive lineman Nate Kalepo announced his intentions to enter the NFL draft after six seasons of college football. A four-star recruit in the 2019 class, Kalepo, a product of Seattle’s Rainier Beach High School, originally committed to coach Chris Petersen and played five seasons with his hometown school.

He made his debut with the Huskies in 2020, playing in two games before becoming part of the rotation up front during coach Jimmy Lake’s disastrous 4-8 season, where he played in 11 games.

Then in 2022, Kalepo was upgraded to starter under Kalen DeBoer and offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb, playing in 12 games and starting three at left guard while Jaxson Kirkland returned to shape.

Then during Washington’s run to the national championship, Kalepo was a key part of the Joe Moore Award-winning offensive line that kept quarterback Michael Penix Jr. upright as the Huskies made their magical run to the national championship. He started all 15 games, 14 at left guard and one at right guard before transferring to Ole Miss in his final season.

With coach Lane Kiffin and the Rebels, Kalepo started 13 games at left guard, helping the SEC team to a 10-3 record after a win in the Taxslayer Gator Bowl and a No. 14 ranking. With 31 starts under his belt, the 6-foot-6, 335-pound offensive lineman should receive an invitation to the NFL combine and could be looked at as both a tackle and guard at the next level.
