Former Washington CB Davon Banks commits to Boise State

Former Washington cornerback Davon Banks announced his commitment to Boise State Wednesday.

One of Washington’s spring departures has found a new home not too far from Montlake.

Redshirt junior cornerback Davon Banks, who entered the portal on April 19, announced Wednesday that he will continue his college career at Boise State.

“Davon chose to do what’s best for him and I support him 100 percent,” cornerbacks coach John Richardson said after Banks announced his decision to leave the Huskies.

Banks entered Washington as an unranked recruit in the 247Sports Composite rankings, although 247 had him rated as a three-star coming out of San Jacinto High School in California. He played in 12 games in his first two seasons, starting against Stanford in 2022.

He entered the 2023 season in a competition with Elijah Jackson to start next to Jabbar Muhammad and was named Washington’s defensive skill player of the week in the Huskies’ win over Boise State in the first game of the season last year. But Banks was injured the following week against Tulsa and missed the remainder of the season. Jackson and Thaddeus Dixon replaced him in the lineup as the Huskies advanced to the national championship game.

With transfers Ephesians Prysock and Jordan Shaw taking starting reps this spring, plus the return of Jackson and Dixon and emergence of redshirt freshman Leroy Bryant, Washington’s corner room was exceedingly crowded.

Banks remained in the thick of the competition during spring practice, but it always seemed as though one of he, Jackson, and/or Dixon would be on their way out to find playing time elsewhere.

At Boise State, Banks should have plenty of it. The Broncos are looking to replace 2023 starter Jaylen Clark, who was dismissed from the program following an arrest. Markel Reed, the starter on the other side, regressed last season. Four of Boise State’s six boundary cornerbacks listed on the unofficial Ourlads depth chart are also listed as seniors, whereas Banks has two seasons of eligibility remaining.

Banks is the second Husky who departed this spring to find a new program. Freshman quarterback Dermaricus Davis committed to UCLA earlier this month. Edge rusher Anthony James, defensive back Diesel Gordon, and linebacker Jordan Whitney are still in the transfer portal.
