Former Vols’ assistant Brandon Staley named Chargers’ head coach

The Los Angeles Chargers have agreed to terms with Brandon Staley as its next head coach.

The Los Angeles Chargers have agreed to terms with Brandon Staley as its next head coach.

He becomes the 17th head coach in franchise history.

Staley comes to the Chargers after serving as defensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Rams last season.

Staley was a graduate assistant at the University of Tennessee in 2012. During his Tennessee tenure, he worked with inside linebackers and was also a special teams assistant.

After leaving Tennessee, Staley served as defensive coordinator and linebackers coach at James Madison in 2014. He was also defensive coordinator and secondary coach at John Carroll (2013, 2015-16) before coaching in the NFL.

Staley served as outside linebackers coach for Chicago (2017-18) and with the Broncos in 2019.
