Former Vikings GM Rick Spielman interviewed with Jaguars for high-level position

Jaguars have interviewed former Vikings GM Rick Spielman for a “high-level front office position.”

It may not take Rick Spielman long to find another job.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo are reporting the former Minnesota Vikings general manager interviewed “in-person yesterday” for a “high-level front office position” with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

After the path of destruction left in the wake of the Urban Meyer era, it was clear the Jaguars were going to leave no stone unturned in their efforts to do some housecleaning.

Spielman would come to the team with a lot of experience after spending the previous decade overseeing personnel matters as the Vikings GM. The team never made it to a Super Bowl under his watch, but they did make it to the 2017 NFC Championship, where they were blown out by a Philadelphia Eagles team that went on to win Super Bowl LII that year.

Of course, there’s no talking about Spielman without addressing the elephant in the room, which was his rapidly eroding relationship with former Vikings coach Mike Zimmer.

After both men were fired in Minnesota, legendary defensive back Deion Sanders broke the news that Zimmer had told him the pair hadn’t spoken in months. Zimmer’s girlfriend, Katarina Elizabeth Miketin, backed up those statements and had some harsh comments for the former GM on social media.

It’s pretty amazing things lasted as long as they did with Zimmer coaching eight years in Minnesota as opposed to Spielman’s 10-year tenure as GM.

And now, Spielman could be the first granted a fresh start with a new job in Jacksonville.
