Former UNC RB Javonte Williams avoids PUP list

Former North Carolina football running back Javonte Williams avoids the PUP list before training camp.

Former North Carolina football running back Javonte Williams took another major step forward in getting ready for the upcoming 2023 NFL season.

After suffering season-ending ACL and LCL tears in Week 4 last season, Williams is on track for this season in his rehab. On Sunday, the Denver Broncos placed four players on the Physically Unable to Perform list ahead of training camp this week but Williams was NOT one of those players.

That’s great news as it means he’s been cleared to begin camp with the team and get on the field.

The news comes after there was some speculation that Williams may not be ready to start the actual season and needs more time to rehab. That has been put away now with his hard work during the rehab process.

The 24-year-old Williams is entering year three in the NFL and has a shot at being the lead back in the Denver offense. As a rookie Williams split time with veteran Melvin Gordon and that was the plan once again in 2022 before he got hurt.

In 21 career games, Williams has rushed for 1,107 yards on 250 carries with the Broncos.
