The North Carolina Tar Heels were one of the teams heavily involved in the recruitment of 2024 five-star forward Matas Buzelis. The talented recruit eventually picked G League Unite, going the professional route over college.
In his recruitment, Buzelis had a total of 14 offers including from big-time programs like UNC and Kentucky. Buzelis believed the best decision for him would be professional, but one has to wonder where he would have landed had he gone to college.
On Thursday, Buzelis revealed the three schools he said he likely would have landed. On J.J. Redick’s “The Old Man and the Three” podcast, Buzelis was asked what school he would have picked had he not gone the G League route.
His answer?
“I got like three that were really hard for me to pick. It’s so difficult man, Buzelis said. “I’d say Wake Forest, Florida State or UNC.”
Ouch. That one hurts.
It’s hard to blame him for going the professional route and trying to better his career path as he is projected as a top 3 pick in the 2024 NBA draft as of right now. We just have to wonder how good UNC’s team would have been this season if they were able to land the talented five-star recruit.
