The transfer portal continues to move at a very high speed. Now, a former USC player has found a new home. 6-foot, 190-pound Trojan safety Xavion Alford has committed to the Arizona State Sun Devils. He made 31 tackles with 3 INT and 3 deflections during his 11 games played (all during 2021) with the Trojans. His 2022 season was derailed by injuries.Â
Alford began his collegiate career at Texas, playing in just two games for the Longhorns during the 2020 season before transferring to USC.
During the 2021 campaign, Alford became a key contributor to the Trojans’ secondary. He appeared in 10 games, earning two starts and recording 31 tackles, three interceptions, and three passes defended.
This past season, Alford was expected to emerge as a starter for USC, but injuries throughout fall camp and during the season prevented him from seeing any game action.
Alford, in the 2020 recruiting class, was the No. 139 overall recruit nationally, the No. 22 prospect in Texas, and the No. 8 safety overall. He has three remaining years of eligibility if he gets a waiver to play this season as a second-time transfer. The likelihood of that scenario remains unclear.
