Former Trojan Joseph Manjack made one of the catches of the week in college football

Joseph Manjack made a man’s catch for Houston. His spectacular TD helped the Cougars fend off UTSA, 37-35, in one of the best games from Week 1.

A great catch is impressive on its own terms, regardless of outside context. However, we remember great catches when they also happen to come at an important moment in a game and help a team win.

Former USC Trojan Joseph Manjack made a catch over the weekend which was visually spectacular and also hugely important to his new team, the Houston Cougars.

Houston trailed UTSA by 14 at halftime. The Cougars needed a 17-point third quarter to get back into the game. Manjack was able to step up and deliver a sensational one-handed catch, sliding in the back of the end zone and getting his feet in bounds for a massive score. Houston was able to get UTSA into overtime. The Cougars eventually won in triple overtime, 37-35, in one of the best and most thrilling games of the young season.

Manjack wanted more playing time and a bigger role, given that USC’s wide receiver room is stacked. He clearly seems to have made a good choice by finding a home in Houston and contributing significantly to a big Week 1 win.
