Bru McCoy played his first game for Tennessee on Thursday night against Ball State in a 59-10 blowout victory. The former Mater Dei five-star recruit and USC receiver had three receptions for 42 yards in the rout on Thursday night.
The 6-3, 220-pound McCoy earned his first start as a Volunteer alongside wide receivers Cedric Tillman and Jalin Hyatt.
With Walker Merrill, Ramel Keyton and Jimmy Holiday also at the WR position, the Vols are deep this season. Dark horse Heisman candidate Hendon Hooker will use that to his advantage as the Vols’ quarterback.
Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel mentioned to media that he wanted to play more bodies at receiver this year, and against Ball State he certainly did that.

Tennessee also had former USC Trojan kicker Chase McGrath on display as well. The Newport Beach, Calif., native was 1 for 1 on field goals, knocking in a 34-yard kick and scoring eight extra points after a tidal wave of Tennessee touchdowns.
The Vols will take on another former USC Trojan when they play Kedon Slovis and the Pittsburgh Panthers next week on the road at 12:30 p.m. Los Angeles time on ABC.
