Former Texas guard and McDonald’s All-American finds new home

Former Texas and Kansas guard Arterio Morris has a new home.

Arterio Morris, a McDonald’s All-American and one of the top guard prospects in the 2022 recruiting class, will reportedly play the 2024-25 college basketball season at South Plains College in Levelland, Texas.

A 6’3 guard from Dallas, Morris was the second ranked point guard in the 2022 recruiting class when he committed to the Texas Longhorns. He appeared in 38 games for the Longhorns as a freshman, averaging 4.6 points and 1.4 rebounds in just under 12 minutes per game.

Morris ultimately hit the transfer portal and landed at Kansas for the 2023-24 season, despite having a pending misdemeanor assault charge stemming from a reported incident while on campus.

Morris never suited up for the Jayhawks after he was charged last August and dismissed from the team after an incident report detailing an alleged rape that occurred on campus. Prosecutors eventually dropped the charges, citing insufficient evidence.

South Plains has won three NJCAA national championships since 2008, and boasts notable basketball alumni including Hall of Famer Sheryl Swoopes and 10-year NBA veteran Bo Outlaw.
