In Week 18 of the NFL Season, former Texas A&M and current Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans achieved his ultimate goal on the year outside of making the playoffs. The veteran pass catcher notched his 11th-consecutive 1,000-yard receiving season, matching the great Jerry Rice for the overall record.
After trailing 16-6 going into halftime, Tampa Bay QB Baker Mayfield made sure to give his team and Evans every opportunity to get back in the game, give his No. 1 wide receiver a chance to match the receiving record, and earn his $3 million bonus at the end of the year.
The Buccaneers stormed back in the second half, as Mayfield found Payne Durham and Jalen McMillan for consecutive touchdowns combined with running back Bucky Irving’s 11-yard score with just over a minute left.
However, Mayfield and OC Liam Cohen knew that Evans was just five yards shy of the record. The duo connected on a nine-yard pass to break through the century mark and place the Texas A&M legend in the NFL record books.
