Former Steeler says team can’t give up on Kevin Dotson yet

Kevin Dotson seems to have lost his starting job at left guard.

The Pittsburgh Steelers made a massive effort early in free agency to bolster the interior offensive line. The Steelers signed not one but two former Philadelphia Eagles guards including Isaac Seumalo. Does this mean it is the end of the line for Kevin Dotson? Former Steeler Ryan Moats says no.

Moats talked about the Steelers activity in free agency and the impact on Dotson on his podcast recently.

“I think Isaac’s the guy,” Moats said. “I don’t think we give up on Dotson yet. He’s one of them guys, he’s always gonna have a shot because he could be elite. I don’t think they’re just gonna give up on him.”

Moats is absolutely right that Dotson could be elite. He showed flashes of it as a rookie. Why he hasn’t been able to return to that level of play? When the Steelers signed Nate Herbig I saw him as a player to come in and compete with Dotson for the starting job but Seumalo is going to get plugged straight into the starting left guard spot and Dotson and Herbig will be fighting for spots on the depth chart.
