Former Sooners DB Damond Harmon finds new home at Liberty

Harmon played for Oklahoma for two seasons before transferring out of the program.

Former Oklahoma Sooners defensive back [autotag]Damond Harmon[/autotag] has found a new home in the [autotag]transfer portal[/autotag]. Harmon was a four-star prospect in the 2021 class, according to 247Sports, and signed with OU in December 2020.

Harmon spent two seasons in Norman, his second with [autotag]Brent Venables[/autotag] as his head coach. He played in 18 games over those two years, and made two starts in the secondary in 2022. He entered the portal in April of 2023.

Harmon took to social media to confirm the news that he’ll now be a member of the Liberty Flames. He enrolled last season at North Carolina A&T, an FCS school, but never saw the field, seemingly due to an academic issue. He reportedly ended up spending the 2023-24 academic year at a community college before transferring to Liberty.

In 2021, Harmon played in 7 games and recorded 4 tackles while playing mainly on special teams for the Sooners. In 2022, he played in 11 games while making two starts in the defensive backfield, finishing the year with 18 tackles.

Now Harmon joins the defensive backfield in Lynchburg for a Liberty team that has thrived under the leadership of head coach Jamey Chadwell. The Flames won the Conference USA title last season, and earned the Group of Five’s automatic New Year’s Six bowl bid. Liberty was soundly defeated by Oregon in the Fiesta Bowl.

Harmon is capable of playing both cornerback and safety, and now has a chance to get his college football career back on track at Liberty.
