Former Sooner Trey Sermon sets Ohio State single-game rushing record in Big Ten Championship

Former Sooner Trey Sermon broke Eddie George’s 25-year-old single-game rushing record at Ohio State on Saturday.

A 25-year-old record was broken on Saturday as former Oklahoma and current Ohio State running back Trey Sermon rushed for 331 yards and two touchdowns on 29 carries in Ohio State‘s 22-10 win over Northwestern in the Big Ten Championship.

Sermon’s performance surpasses Heisman trophy winner Eddie George’s mark of 314 yards against Illinois in 1995. Sermon’s clutch performance came amidst a rare frustrating outing for quarterback Justin Fields, who finished 12/27 passing for 114 yards, zero touchdowns and two interceptions. Sermon was named the Big Ten Championship MVP for his performance, which largely helped the Buckeyes win their fourth-straight conference title.

The former Sooner transferred to Ohio State in March after completing three season in Norman. Sermon totaled 2076 rushing yards and 22 touchdowns on 339 carries from 2017-19 at Oklahoma. He added 391 yards and three touchdowns through the air as well. He had garnered just 344 yards in five game so far this season, nearly eclipsing that mark on Saturday alone.
