Former Rutgers defensive tackle Sebastian Joseph-Day signs with San Francisco 49ers

Sebastian Joseph-Day signs with the San Francisco 49ers.

Just days after being waived by the Los Angeles Chargers, former Rutgers star Sebastian Joseph-Day has found a new home. On Wednesday, the 28-year-old signed with the San Francisco 49ers. Joseph-Day could play an important role for a 49ers team dealing with injuries.

Since making his NFL debut in 2019, the Pennsylvania native has appeared in 69 games for the Rams and Chargers. In that span, he has recorded 200 total tackles and 11 sacks. He also has one interception in his NFL career.

Additionally, Joseph-Day knows what it takes to win a championship. He was part of the Rams 2021 Super Bowl-winning team and appeared in seven regular season games. In San Francisco he will be counted on to help bolster the 49ers tackle depth. Arik Armstead is currently dealing with a foot injury.

While Joseph-Day’s tenure with the Chargers came to a disappointing end, he can still be a productive piece. In 16 games this season, he has added 18 solo tackles to his resume, the third-highest total of his career.

Through 15 games, the 49ers are a Super Bowl favorite due to an 11-4
record. However, they have shown that they aren’t done adding and have turned to Joseph-Day for help as they look to fortify their roster before the start of postseason play.
