The NFL world is holding its breath as longtime assistant Greg Knapp is in critical condition following a bicycle accident. The former Raiders offensive coordinator and current Jets passing game coordinator still makes his home in the East Bay town of Danville. He was out riding his bike in nearby San Ramon when he was struck by a motorist according to multiple reports.
The accident occurred at the intersection of Dougherty and Bollinger Canyon Road in San Ramon and Knapp was rushed to San Ramon Regional Medical Center and later transferred to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek.
Knapp is a Sacramento State alum who has coached at the NFL level since 1995, working his way up to offensive coordinator, first with the 49ers and later had two stints as Raiders OC in 2007-08, and 2012.
Despite coaching in Seattle, Houston, Denver, Atlanta, and now New York, Knapp’s primary residence has remained in the East Bay where he lived while he was coaching with the Raiders. He was preparing to join his Jets team on July 27 for the start of training camp.
Knapp is said to be battling serious, life-threatening injuries and his family has asked that everyone keep Greg in your prayers.
