Nine days ago, former Raiders defensive end Josh Mauro found his new team, signing with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Today, we see why it may have taken so long for him to sign on somewhere. He violated the league policy for performance-enhancing drugs and has received a 5-game suspension, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
#Jaguars DE Josh Mauro was suspended without pay for the first five games of the 2020 regular season for violating the NFL policy on performance-enhancing substances. His second such suspension, with the first one coming in 2018.

As Ian Rapoport noted, the 5-game suspension is because this is not Mauro’s first offense. He had previously been suspended for a game two seasons ago for the same reason.
Mauro signed with the Raiders in the 2019 offseason after five years in the league with the Steelers, Cardinals, and Giants, and appeared in 13 games last season, starting the first seven games. He lost his starting job when Maxx Crosby proved he could be an every-down player and wasn’t brought back after the season.
