As if adding one of Penn State’s best offensive weapons in recent years was not enough for the Philadelphia Eagles this offseason, the Birds just added another former Nittany Lion star to its roster. [autotag]Jahan Dotson[/autotag] was traded from the Washington Commanders to the Eagles on Thursday in exchange for draft picks.
The move addresses a need to add a quality third receiver to the Eagles offense, which is headlined by the receiver combo of A.J. Brown and former Heisman Trophy winner DeVonta Smith. Dotson will also work his way into the mix in an offense that added former Penn State running back [autotag]Saquon Barkley[/autotag] this offseason as a free agent.

Dotson wrapped up his college career with 2,757 yards and 25 touchdowns in 42 games. Dotson is fourth on Penn State’s all-time receiving yardage leaderboard and tied for second in the school record books with 25 receiving touchdowns (he is tied for second with former Eagles draft pick Kenny Jackson, ironically).
Dotson led Washignton in receiving yards with 523 yards as a rookie in 2022 but saw his production dip slightly in 2023 despite playing in five more games. Dotson had just 518 receiving yards and four touchdowns last season for Washington.
Dotson will no longer be tasked with being the top go-to receiver or even the top alternate in Philadelphia with Brown and Smith as the top combo. But the Eagles are looking forward to seeing what new offensive coordinator Kellen Moore can do to inject a little more energy into the offense. With Barkley and Dotson in the mix, Penn State fans are likely eager to see how this all plays out as well.
If the Eagles are just on a mission to accumulate former Penn State stars from division rivals, there is one more notable player to get from the Dallas Cowboys. But finding a way to add Micah Parsons in a trade might prove to be too difficult to pull off even for Eagles general manager Howie Roseman.
Dotson and his new teammates kick off the 2024 NFL season against Sean Clifford and the Green Bay Packers in Brazil on Friday, Sept. 6.
Penn State will open its season on Saturday, Aug. 31 with a road game at West Virginia, one of the hottest tickets of the season for Penn State fans. You can download our schedule wallpaper for your phone.
