Halloween may have been last weekend, but Carolina Panthers quarterback Sam Darnold still seems to be seeing ghosts on the football field. Coincidentally, they seem to appear more vividly than ever when he plays the New England Patriots.
Midway through the fourth quarter, the Panthers quarterback had already thrown a trifecta of interceptions, leading to his dismal passer rating of just 25.5. Making his stats on paper even worse, Darnold threw for zero touchdowns and completed less than half of his pass attempts to that point.
Now, after his fourth career game against New England, Darnold had thrown for a whopping nine interceptions and just one touchdown. And while one of the picks can be excused as an incredibly athletic play by Patriots linebacker Jamie Collins, the other two were simply perfect tosses to cornerback J.C. Jackson.
Darnold’s performance attracted the attention former New England wide receiver Julian Edelman, who had to get in on the fun with an obvious allusion to his infamous “Mic’d Up” quote.

Thanks for the reminder, Julian.
