Former Patriots QB Ryan Mallett reportedly died in a tragic drowning accident on Tuesday

Former New England Patriots quarterback Ryan Mallett drowned on Tuesday while swimming in Florida, per multiple reports. He was 35.

The news was confirmed through the White Hall School District, where Mallett coached high school football, in a released statement.

“It is with great sadness that we share the loss of Coach Ryan Mallett,” the statement read. “Coach Mallett was a beloved coach and educator. We ask that you remember his family, team, students, fellow coaches, and the White Hall School District staff in your prayers.”

Mallett was a third-round pick for the Patriots in the 2011 NFL draft. In 2012 and 2013, Mallett served as the primary backup for Tom Brady. He also played a total of four seasons with the Houston Texans and Baltimore Ravens.

Coach Bill Belichick put out a statement regarding Mallett’s tragic passing.

“I am extremely saddened by Ryan’s tragic passing. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and the many people whose lives he touched,” Belichick’s statement read.

There are no doubt many lives that were touched by Mallett, who clearly made a major impact both on and off the football field.
