Former Patriots DE DaMarcus Mitchell signs with NFC West team

Former Patriots DE DaMarcus Mitchell has found a new home.

Former New England Patriots defensive end DaMarcus Mitchell signed with the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, per the NFL’s transaction wire.

Mitchell was released by New England to make room for running back Ezekiel Elliott. He played in 16 of 17 games last season predominantly on special teams. At only 24 years old, he still has room to grow, and he could have potentially played a role on the New England defense.

He now serves as a piece for a Seattle defense that ranked 26th in the NFL last year with 361.7 yards allowed per game. He will be able to provide depth at a defensive end position that is headlined by Dre’Mont Jones.

Patriots coach Bill Belichick usually places an emphasis on special teams players. So it’s clear that the team simply ran out of room for Mitchell, who will now look to showcase his talents in the NFC West.
