In case you were wondering what Matt Rhule is up to these days, Vic Carucci’s got you covered.
The former Carolina Panthers head coach joined the longtime NFL reporter for an exclusive one-on-one chat—a rarity since he was fired back on Oct. 10. And in that interview, which was released on Monday by The 33rd Team, Carucci asked Rhule what lies ahead for him—even playfully referring to the number of college jobs he was linked to almost immediately after his dismissal.
That, however, probably isn’t a silly thought.
“Funny you say that,” Rhule said. “I got fired at 10:35. I did the team meeting at 11 . . . I think that was the timeframe. I’m home by 11:30. And at like 11:35, I get the first call from a search firm.”
Even before his departure from Carolina, Rhule’s name has been attached to a few big openings at the collegiate level. So don’t be surprised if you see him on the sideline over at Nebraska, Wisconsin, Colorado or Georgia Tech next year.
But, as of now, the unemployed Rhule said that he misses a lot about the game.
“As I sit here now, I miss that whistle,” he told Carucci. “I miss being at practice. I miss being with the guys. I miss seeing something done wrong and, ‘Hey, let’s stop it and do it again.’ I miss teaching.”
Fortunately for Rhule, it seems like he won’t have to miss it for too much longer.
