After spending a couple of weeks with the Oregon Ducks in preparation for the Rose Bowl against the Ohio State Buckeyes, 5-star quarterback signee Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele decided that he would rather go somewhere else and play as a true freshman.
On Friday, Sagapolutele announced that he would be entering the transfer portal and looking for a team where he could play right away as a true freshman. A couple of days later, Sagapolutele announced his transfer destination, and it comes as no surprise.
The 5-star QB will be transferring to the California Golden Bears, a school where he was committed to for a long time before flipping to the Ducks on signing day.
In Berkeley, Sagapolutele will compete with Chandler Rodgers and CJ Morris for the starting spot as a true freshman.
While the loss of a 5-star is never desired, the Ducks are in a great spot at the quarterback position and should be just fine going forward with Dante Moore taking over for Dillon Gabriel as the starter in 2025.
