Former Oklahoma QB Baker Mayfield named AFC Offensive Player of the Week

Former Oklahoma Sooners quarterback Baker Mayfield had a big day on Sunday, and it earned him the honor of AFC Offensive Player of the Week.

Former Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield has had his fair share of critics in his young NFL career, but he responded in a big way to them on Sunday with his Cleveland Browns knocking off the rival Cincinnati Bengals 37-34.

Mayfield had a brutal start to the game, going 0-5 with an interception to open the afternoon. But from that point on, Baker played essentially a flawless game completing 22 of his next 23 passes (the lone incompletion coming on a spike) with five touchdowns – setting the franchise record for consecutive completions in the process.

The fifth of those touchdowns was on a spectacular toss to the corner of the endzone to Donovan Peoples-Jones that gave Cleveland the lead with just 11 seconds remaining.

The performance was good enough to earn Mayfield the honor of AFC Offensive Player of the Week.

He has the Browns now sitting at 5-2 and well in the thick of the playoff push as the calendar prepares to shift to November.
