Former Notre Dame quarterback joins Patriots

The New England Patriots are signing one of the most accomplished quarterbacks to ever play at Notre Dame to a practice squad contract.

Earlier this week, Notre Dame’s all-time winningest starting quarterback was in San Francisco for a workout with the 49ers. Ian Book, who played at Notre Dame from 2016-2020, worked out for the Patriots a day later.

As it turns out, Bill Belichick and New England must have liked what they saw. Book is reportedly set to sign a deal to join the Patriots practice squad.

The Patriots had signed former Ole Miss quarterback Matt Corral in August.  However, they placed him on the left team/exempt list for an undisclosed reason.

Book was drafted in 2021 by the New Orleans Saints, with whom he made one start. He spent 2022 with the Philadelphia Eagles before being cut during the preseason this summer.
