Former Notre Dame QB, Tyler Buchner, visiting Alabama today

Alabama transfer portal QB target, Tyler Buchner, visiting Tuscaloosa today

The transfer portal doors are wide open upon the conclusion of spring games. Alabama has been very active in the portal since its introduction to college sports, which is not expected to change this year. The Tide have landed two of their biggest contributors out of the portal over the past two seasons in Jameson Williams and Jahmyr Gibbs, so don’t be shocked to see them do it again.

The biggest question for Alabama heading into their spring game was the quarterback position. Both Jalen Milroe and Ty Simpson played well, but not well enough to eliminate the idea of bringing in outside competition. Former Notre Dame QB, Tyler Buchner, entered the portal earlier in the week and the rumors of him to Alabama have run rampant. It makes sense as the Tide’s current OC, Tommy Rees, worked extensively with Buchner in South Bend last year as the Irish’s OC.

Although, his style of play would mesh nicely with what Alabama wants to do in 2023, bringing him on board would probably send at least one quarterback on the roster into the transfer portal.

Buchner is in Tuscaloosa today visiting with Nick Saban and the Alabama football staff, according to Matt Zenitz of On3, so we should have some sort of resolution soon. It is definitely a very interesting dilemma, but it’s better to have options.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to monitor Tyler Buchner’s transfer portal status and his visit in Tuscaloosa.
