Well, the saga of Emoni Bates can now be concluded, at least for MSU fans. The one-time Spartan commit announced on his Instagram page on Wednesday that he is committing to Memphis, where he will be expected to play for two years unless the NBA changes their draft rules.

This was a frustrating recruitment process for Michigan State fans, and was perfectly encapsulated today as it was first reported that Bates will commit on Friday, but then he just committed today instead.

All things considered, I do think Memphis is the best fit for Bates, who will be a big fish in a little pond in that conference. MSU fans will likely be upset about Bates’ decision for years but just keep in mind that there are a lot of people influencing his decision here and I think it’s silly to get too mad at a teenager for where they decide to play a game.
