As any school has, regardless of how good it’s doing or not on the playing field, Michigan has lost some players to the NCAA transfer portal this offseason.
One of its inclusions recently has been former defensive back George Johnson, who played quarterback at Stuart (Fla.) Martin County and initially came to Ann Arbor as a wide receiver before switching to defensive back. Johnson started making waves at the cornerback position in fall camp this past season, but appeared to be working with the wide receivers again in prep for the Capital One Orange Bowl. He entered the NCAA transfer portal shortly after the game.
Now Johnson is reuniting with his former defensive coordinator, Don Brown, who’s now the head coach at UMass, as Johnson announced he’s committing to the Minutemen.

A recruit from the 2019 class, Johnson has at least three full years of eligibility remaining.
