Former Michigan DE scooped up by Kansas City

The former Wolverine didn’t have to wait long to find a new home after being cut by Miami.

Well, that didn’t take long.

After a rocky start in Dallas led to a one-year stint with the Miami Dolphins, former Michigan defensive end Taco Charlton — picked in the first-round of the 2017 NFL Draft by the Cowboys — suddenly found himself without a home.

The Dolphins cut Charlton earlier this week despite having five sacks in ten game appearances. However, it wasn’t enough for the squad to keep him down in South Florida.

WolverinesWire speculated that Charlton wouldn’t be on the market for long, and we were right, as a report came through late Friday night signifying that Charlton has been scooped up in quick order by the reigning Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs.

There, he’ll re-team with fellow former Michigan defensive end Frank Clark as well as another former teammate in the Chiefs undrafted free agent CB Lavert Hill. Additionally, the Chiefs drafted grad transfer Mike Danna in the fifth-round of the 2020 NFL Draft.

From our colleagues over at ChiefsWire:

This signing just made too much sense for Kansas City once Charlton cleared waivers. He fits the profile of a Steve Spagnuolo defensive end, hitting thresholds for size, weight and arm length. The locker room the Chiefs have is perfect for Charlton, with two Michigan alumnus in Frank Clark and new Chiefs DE Mike Danna. Finally, defensive line coach Brendan Daly is exactly the type of coach that will get the best out of a player like Charlton in 2020.

It sounds like a better situation for one of Michigan’s most recently prolific pass rushers.

And he’ll be playing on an elite team with a strong supporting cast to boot.
