Pass rusher, and former Kentucky Wildcats star, Josh Allen had a huge year in 2023. He was rewarded for it this off-season, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Originally franchise tagged, Allen was set to make approximate $24 million in 2024. However, on Wednesday, the Jacksonville Jaguars signed the 26-year old star to a new deal that will pay him $150 million over the next five years.
Allen was drafted by the Jaguars with the seventh overall pick in 2019. He was a Pro Bowler as a rookie, having recorded 10.5 sacks and 2 forced fumbles.
In the final year of his rookie contract last year, he broke out. He started all 17 games, and had 17.5 sacks, 17 tackles for a loss, 2 forced fumbles, and an interception. Allen also made the Pro Bowl once again.
At Kentucky, Allen became an all-time great pass rusher in school history. In his final season in Lexington, he had 17 sacks and 21.5 tackles for a loss.
Allen’s new deal makes him one of the highest-paid edge rushers in the NFL, and includes $88 million in guaranteed money. The former Kentucky star will now be in Jacksonville for the foreseeable future.
