Tuesday was the last day that NFL teams were able to use their Franchise Tags on a player. They had until 4:00 PM Eastern Time to use it to prevent any member of the team from hitting free agency. Former Kentucky linebacker Josh Allen will be under the tag for 2024.
Per Ian Rapoport of NFL.com, the Jacksonville Jaguars are planning to use their Franchise designation on Allen today. That will tie the former Wildcat to the team that drafted him for another season.
The #Jaguars are expected to place the franchise tag on pass-rusher Josh Allen, and he’s on the books for one year and $24M, source said. No surprise. The team has expressed confidence in getting a long-term deal.

Allen had a career year in 2023, recording 17.5 sacks along with an interception and two forced fumbles. It got him voted to his second career Pro Bowl.
At Kentucky, Allen came in as a lightly recruited two star player, and left as one of the all-time greats. In his Senior season, he had 17 sacks and 21.5 tackles for a loss, and won SEC Defensive Player of the Year.
The Franchise Tag will pay Allen $24 million.
