Former Iowa receiver announces Group of Five transfer destination

Former Iowa WR Kaleb Brown announced his transfer portal destination.

Former Iowa football wide receiver Kaleb Brown announced his transfer portal destination on Tuesday.

The 5-foot-10, 200 pound receiver announced his commitment to UAB. The Blazers are looking to rebuild from a disappointing 3-9 (2-6 American) finish during the 2024 season.

Brown ends his time at Iowa with 23 receptions for 233 receiving yards and one 10-yard touchdown grab during the Hawkeyes’ 22-0 win over Rutgers on Nov. 11, 2023.

Brown’s best statistical receiving game with the Hawkeyes came during Iowa’s 15-13 win over Illinois on Nov. 18, 2023. Brown reeled in seven grabs for 71 yards against the Illini.

The Chicago product also carried nine times for 54 yards during the 2023 season with Iowa.

Brown arrived in Iowa City as the highest-rated wide receiver in the program’s history per the 247Sports composite ranking.

Brown’s 0.9684 composite score topped Keenan Davis’ 0.9453 score in the 2009 class and Trey Stross’ 0.9190 score in the 2005 class.

According to 247Sports, Brown was a four-star signee, the nation’s No. 13 wide receiver, the No. 3 player from Illinois and the No. 78 player nationally in the 2022 signing class.

The star power just didn’t play out that way for Brown in the black and gold. Though there were flashes in 2023, Brown never fully morphed into a No. 1 wide receiver and the type of NFL draft prospect that Hawkeye fans were hoping for.

Ahead of the 2024 season, Brown was arrested and charged with OWI and possession of a fake ID. Brown then proceeded to play in just three games in the 2024 season, played only 19 snaps and caught just one pass for 18 yards during Iowa’s 38-21 win over Troy on Sept. 14.

Brown revealed in October that he was intending to enter the NCAA transfer portal and had played his final down at Iowa.

As he departs Iowa City, 247Sports rates Brown as a three-star transfer portal addition to UAB. According to 247Sports, Brown is the nation’s No. 60 wide receiver and the 365th-ranked player nationally.
