Former Illinois-Chicago SG Jace Carter announces commitment to Texas A&M

Buzz Williams is getting a dual-impact player in former Illinois-Chicago guard Jace Carter, who brings averages of 16.6 PPG and 7.0 RPG after verbally committing to the Aggies.

The future of Texas A&M basketball is looking especially bright after Buzz Williams’ program received another verbal commitment on Wednesday afternoon.

Former University of Illinois-Chicago shooting guard Jace Carter, who entered the college basketball transfer portal last month, announced his commitment to Texas A&M through social media. Carter spent two seasons with the Flames and has two years of eligibility remaining.

In speaking with 247 sports last month, Carter noted that he had interest from Arkansas, Clemson, Michigan State, Missouri, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, South Carolina, and Villanova.

At 6’5″ and 215 lbs, Carter recorded averages of 16.6 PPG and 7.0 RPG during the 2022 season and earned second-team All-Missouri Valley Conference honors. He is a career 32.4 percent shooter from three.

The former 3-star recruit in the Class of 2021 also averaged 1.3 steals per game as a sophomore, further illustrating just how he can impact a game at all levels. He’s a proven bucket-getter who has a hunger for crashing the boards, while also not shying away from giving the same effort on the defensive end.

If he sounds like a perfect fit in Buzz Williams’ system, it’s because he is. In light of the departure of Dexter Dennis following his last year of eligibility, Carter will be a great veteran addition to a young, high-octane backcourt headlined by All-SEC guard Wade Taylor IV.

Congrats to Carter on committing to the Aggies and we look forward to seeing your impact next season!
