Miami Heat rookie Tyler Herro has turned quite a few heads during his run in the playoffs this year and yet another former player has taken notice of his play during the NBA Finals: 11-time All-Star Chris Bosh.
Of course, Bosh helped the Heat win two championships in 2012 and 2013 and has kept an eye on his former team during their run. Bosh, in an interview with Anthony Chiang of the Miami Herald, admitted he didn’t think the Heat would make it to the NBA Finals but he wasn’t necessarily surprised, either.
Behind the genius of Pat Riley, and head coach Erik Spoelstra, the Heat have exceeded expectations and became just the third team in history seeded fifth or lower to advance to the NBA Finals. Bosh pointed to the leadership of the Heat that has assembled a talented roster that has shocked the basketball community this year.
Bosh has been especially impressed with Herro, who, on Friday, set the rookie record for the most consecutive games scoring in double digits during a single postseason run. Bosh loves the confidence Herro plays with and the chip he carries on his shoulder.
This dude has no fear. He has no fear — good shot, bad shot. He’s not afraid of that moment. That’s what I love about him, and he has been doing that all season. You can tell he’s one of those guys that he feels that he belongs there. He got snubbed for the All-Rookie First-Team. He’s one of those guys that plays with a chip on his shoulder. He plays like he has something to prove. Sometimes you need that. That can be a lost art sometimes.
Herro, who became the youngest player in history to start in the NBA Finals, also set the rookie record for the most 3-pointers made during a postseason run and he is also just one of six rookies to score 300 points or more during the playoffs.
The Heat face a tough task in trying to erase a 3-2 series deficit to Los Angeles Lakers but it is clear that the future is bright in South Beach with Herro, Jimmy Butler and the rest of the roster.
